      Emma here 🙂

Generally psychiatry doctors work 9-5 monday to friday. On top of that we do ‘on call’ shifts where we are available to cover emergencies, admit patients out of hours etc. We do this on evenings, weekends and nights, but you do get time off in the week to make sure you’re not too tired!

To give you an idea – I am working 9-5 Mon to Fri this week apart from tomorrow when I am doing 8am-8pm. My colleague is working night shifts this week (8pm-8am) Monday to Thurs with the rest of the time off.

I normally work 4 days a week, about 8 hours a day. The beauty of a job in this line of work is you can work flexibly and tailor it to your needs. I like to do other stuff like lecturing and research so I can get time to do that.

Muna – In home treatment since we are a 7 day 8-10pm service, practitioners work in shifts and 5 days a week which can include weekend and bank holidays. I am working 8-4pm today but tomorrow will be working 2-10pm and i will also be working over the weekend.

I have a “flexible working” arrangement because my son needs lots of care, so I work three days a week, but my job is still considered full-time. My days start at 8 and finish at 6.
