I was inspired by my mum she was a nurse and was also a patient as she had cancer, the at that the nurses helped her and even thought I was only little at the time they made me feel cared for and safe too, and I wanted to be able to do that for other people.

Hi, Julie here. There wasn’t one person in particular but I have met so many amazing nurses along my journey!

Nobody inspired me into nursing particularly (although my mum is a nurse and my dad a doctor, plus my sister and her partner are both paramedics and my wife is a doctor too…) but once I started working in mental health there were a few nurses who really inspired me to become the best nurse I can be. I’m lucky to count them as friends.

I was inspired by my grandad who had dementia and died recently. I was moved by this condition which robs you of your memories and personality and wanted to help others the best way I could. I was lucky enough to have met Mother Theresa when I was younger and she encouraged me to enter a life of being a doctor. I’ve never looked back since.
