Cat ( Music Therapy). I guess ultimately I wanted to help other people, I am inspired by people who help others, and who can make a positive difference to someone else’s life. By involving something I love and enjoy as well (music), made it even more desirable to pursue.

Steven here, I had spent time as a service user and received great medical, psychological and practical support so I decided when I recovered that I should use my experiences to help others recover and get the best out of services. I had a great CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) therapist who really helped me and now I use CBT in all my client work.

      Hi! Emma here.

Edelle saw how much passion her oldest friend has as a nurse which inspired her. Jen says her mum inspired her as she was a ward sister. Gemma was inspired by an orthopaedic surgeon during her work experience.
I did some volunteering at a home for people with mental health problems whilst in college and really enjoyed looking after them, so I decided to become a psychiatrist.
I also really wanted to work with people and being a doctor allows you meet and help so many different types of people and make a difference to them – I love it!

I think being in a profession of helping others is so rewarding. 1 in 4 people will suffer from mental health problems at some point in their lives so this is really important to try and help with this. I think you can draw inspiration from any people you come across. Almost everyone knows someone who has been affected by mental health problems. I’ve always been fascinated with how the mind works and this naturally drew me into the field of psychiatry.
